It is far enough into the season to begin to look at the free agent signings made this summer. One stands out as being a complete failure so far. Martin Havlat left the Chicago Blackhawks to sign with the Minnesota Wild. He signed a five year contract worth $30 million. He was intended as a replacement for NHL goal scoring leader Marian Gaborik, who had jumped to the New York Rangers, but it has not worked out that way.

Are you willing to call the Havlat signing the worst of the off-season just yet?

No, not yet. Yes, to date he has been a disappointment, but I still think he is going to get into a groove and put up some points.

At this moment I would certainly consider it one of the worst UFA signings from this past off-season. But, that doesn't mean that he can't start to pick up his scoring and turn it from one of the worst into one of the better ones.

I agree its to early but right now yes he has dissapointed. While its frustrating 1 year of a 5 year contract doesnt make a player either. He will turn it around. We were also not expecting him Mikko and Bruno to not have any chemistry and Sykora was to be playing wing burying what Havlat does create.

I am banging my head against the wall right now about Havlat. I just hope he finds his on switch. For right now, I will say that he has been a bust, but there's still time.

I think it's still too early to call it a complete failure. Before this month and the end of November, the Wild weren't exactly doing so hot as a team. I think we need to get into the 2nd half before we start making any judgments on who is or isn't a good pick-up.

But so far, yes, he isn't producing like we all thought he was going to do. But it's going to take time for everyone to click, even though it can be frustrating at times. Give it time. :dontgetit:

Frustration is kind of an understatement for me when the guy who we let go to free agency is having the best year of his career so far. Ugh.

3 points last night and 8 points in his last 7 games...maybe things have turned for Havlat.

Did not see the game but he assisted on the Latendresse goal...which now gives him 9 points in his last 8 games.
