Coming off two consecutive games where the Canucks surrendered a hat trick in each game to an opposition player, on Thursday they finally decided to turn the tables victimizing the visiting Thrashers with a hat trick performance of their own. Daniel Sedin tallied twice in the first period and added another goal early in the middle frame for his first three-goal outing of the season and his first in nearly three years as the Canucks handily defeated the Thrashers by a 4-2 final score. The win snapped Vancouver's two-game losing streak and improved their home ice record to 11-4-0. More importantly, the Canucks hope, it set the tone for Vancouver's season-high eight-game home stand that continues tonight when they face the Wild for the third time this season.

The Canucks can thank the NHL schedule-maker once again as, for the second consecutive game (and tenth time overall this season), they will be facing a team that had to play the night before. However, the Canucks can ill-afford to take the Wild too lightly as their opponents tonight have been playing much better hockey since the last time these two teams tangled back on November 5th. Heading into their last meeting back in early November the Wild sat dead last in the Northwest Division, tied for last in the Western Conference and seven points out of a playoff spot, while trailing the Canucks by eight points although they did hold two games in hand at the time. Entering play tonight, the Wild are just one point behind the Canucks after the same number of games played while just four points back of the eighth and final playoff spot in the West.

The Wild come into tonight's game having won seven of their last eight games (7-0-1) with one of those victories coming last night in Calgary after the visitors dominated the hometown Flames out-shooting them 46-23 but just managing a slim 2-1 overtime victory. The win improved Minnesota's record on their current five-game road trip, which ends tonight in Vancouver, to 3-1-0. For the Wild, however, tonight's game will feel more like the fifth game of an eight-game trip as, following a short stop back home on Tuesday, they are back out on the road again for two straight in Montreal and Ottawa, respectively, beginning on Thursday.

They'll be looking for their first win in the season series against the Canucks after dropping the first two games including a 2-1 loss at GM Place back on October 17th. Their most recent meeting was an even more lopsided affair as the Canucks earned a 5-2 victory at the Xcel Energy Center in a game that saw five different goal scorers for Vancouver. A regulation time victory for the Canucks would ensure them of nothing less than a split in the 2009.10 season series. Following tonight's meeting the Canucks and Wild won't see each other again until January 13th back series at the Xcel Energy Center in Minnesota.

Good game overall. Im disappointed we didnt get any points but can take Havlat waking up and a second dominating performance over a tough rival as consolation. Surprisingly clean game for Wild and Nucks. Harding blew that game...
