In an area like South Florida, winning is the only thing that matters.
With more teams in it than most states have, South Florida fans can afford to be picky. If the Dolphins suck, you can watch the Heat. If the Heat suck, you can watch the Panthers. In April the Marlins come around. By late Summer, FAU and Miami football will be back.
However, no two sport’s seasons mimic each other as much as hockey and basketball. The Panthers and Heat are in direct competition for attendance, even with games on the same nights occasionally.
