from Steve Sexton of the Sun-Sentinel,

Sexton said he’s been busy on the phone and has spoken more to GMs in the Western Conference than the Eastern Conference. That’s because with so much parity in the Eastern Conference, hardly any team has decided it will be a seller. As for teams talking possible deals with the Panthers, “there are a lot of [teams] out there with guns and masks.”

“If you’re going to acquire a player, what teams want from you in return is ridiculous,” Sexton said. “I don’t mind paying a fair price for a player we’re going to keep, but for some of the rental players that are out there, some of the prices being asked are ridiculous.”

Sexton said he’s prepared for the possibility that the Panthers will be sellers, but really believes they’ll be buyers at the March 3 deadline.

I wonder if PDB thought this before this season started and played good soldier or if even he's given up on the forwards too?

Sexton is smoking hard if he thinks we'll be buyers after the break. I'm not sure what would give him that impression. I have a hard time seeing us beat either Vancouver or Boston this week at home. On the other hand, I'm not sure we have anything to sell.

And, it's Steve GORTEN, not Sexton. Thanks.

If this team had stepped up and beaten Calgary and Atlanta my hopes would be a little higher for our chances of being a buyer rather than a seller.. I'm with Doc on this. As much as I'd love to see us go out and make some moves, I just don't see it happening. I'd love to be wrong, but I have a feeling we're seeing the last few games with Seidenberg in our lineup. That's sad because he's been one of the only consistent bright spots on the ice...

I don't know what to expect anymore, honestly. *sigh*

I'd love for us to be buyers, but I don't see that happening. Our young guys are too valuable to give up, and we wouldn't get anything decent for our "second tier" prospects.

I just hope Vokoun stays, for my selfish reasons of not wanting to see him go.

While I don't want to mortgage the future, what young guys are we not willing to trade? Booth and Kulikov for sure. Horton has obviously changed his mentality and up until his injury was making serious progress. Other than that, and I'm only talking players on the NHL rosters, anyone for the right price is fair game.

As for the AHL guys, I would hold onto McArdle, Duco, Markstrom, Ellerby. Maybe Repik. That's about it. We have to decide that we're not rebuilding any more. We need to make the playoffs. I certainly don't want a team loaded with 35 year olds, but we ust ahve to be smarter in now we approach free agency.
