The Florida Panthers have traded Jordan Leopold to the Pittsburgh Penguins for a second round pick in 2010, pending a trade call with the NHL.

Leopold had 7 goals and 11 assists for 18 points in 61 games with Florida this season. He was -7 with 22 penalty minutes.

In his NHL career, Leopold has 36 goals, 91 assists and 127 points in 416 games. His career plus/minus rating is -22, and he he has logged 184 total penalty minutes.

Leopold has played 46 career NHL playoff games, counting no goals and 15 assists with a +9 rating and 18 penalty minutes. He was a member of the Flames squad that reached the Stanley Cup Finals in 2004. He notched 10 assists and had a +5 rating in 26 games during that playoff run.

Leopold has been traded five times in his NHL career. He was originally selected by the Anaheim Ducks in the second round of the 1999 NHL Entry Draft. Before playing an NHL game, he was traded to the Calgary Flames in September of 2000. Leopold played three-plus seasons in Calgary before getting traded to Colorado in 2006 in a deal that saw Alex Tanguay go to the Flames. Leopold was traded back to the Flames at the 2009 trade deadline, in exchange for Lawrence Nycholat, Ryan Wilson and a second round pick. After the 2009 Entry Draft in June, Leopold was traded to Florida as part of the deal that saw Jay Bouwmeester head to Calgary. Leopold ended up re-signing with Florida as an unrestricted free agent last summer.

Leopold won the Hobey Baker Award as the top U.S. Collegiate player in 2002, his senior year at the University of Minnesota.

I asked this last year and I'll ask it again... what the heck were the Panthers thinkin when they kept Bouwmeester past the Deadline?

Yeah, most of us consider that worse than the Luongo trade. So, for Bo we got a 2nd rounder and a 3rd rounder. That's it. We could have had Mason Raymond and a 1st rounder. Oh well, that was JM the GM for ya!

We all know it was because JM needed to make the playoffs to save his job (which he left anyway) and we had a better chance to make it with Bouwmeester than whatever we would have gotten for him. We didn't know he'd quit on the team after the deadline. No team needed to make the playoffs more than us last year, so he gambled, and lost.

This is Leopold's fifth time being traded. I wonder what's the highest amount of trades a player has gone through in his career. With some luck I bet Leo could tie or exceed it.
