The Florida Panthers have traded Jordan Leopold to the Pittsburgh Penguins for a second round pick in 2010, pending a trade call with the NHL.

Leopold had 7 goals and 11 assists for 18 points in 61 games with Florida this season. He was -7 with 22 penalty minutes.

In his NHL career, Leopold has 36 goals, 91 assists and 127 points in 416 games. His career plus/minus rating is -22, and he he has logged 184 total penalty minutes.

Leopold has played 46 career NHL playoff games, counting no goals and 15 assists with a +9 rating and 18 penalty minutes. He was a member of the Flames squad that reached the Stanley Cup Finals in 2004. He notched 10 assists and had a +5 rating in 26 games during that playoff run.

Leopold has been traded five times in his NHL career. He was originally selected by the Colorado Avlanche in the second round of the 1999 NHl Entry Draft. Before playing an NHL game, he was traded to the Calgary Flames in September of 2000. Leopold played three-plus seasons in Calgary before getting traded to Colorado in 2006 in a deal that saw Alex Tanguay go to the Flames. Leopold was traded back to the Flames at the 2009 trade deadline, in exchange for Lawrence Nycholat, Ryan Wilson and a second round pick. After the 2009 Entry Draft in June, Leopold was traded to Florida as part of the deal that saw Jay Bouwmeester head to Calgary. Leopold ended up re-signing with Florida as an unrestricted free agent last summer.

Leopold won the Hobey Baker Award as the top U.S. Collegiate player in 2002, his senior year at the University of Minnesota.

Leopold, huh? I am not too sure how I feel about this move.
Does this mean we are going to trade one of our current D-men? Maybe Letang or Goligoski?

Hmm very probable I'd say. I read something that Shero has said that all defenseman are is in play except Orpik. I do think right now it will be Gogo on the outs.

More I think about this the more I am liking this trade. Leopold is pretty mobile if I recall correctly and is quite the underrated defenseman, perhaps an Eaton with more offensive production. This could easily be a replacement for McKee as well. This will be an interesting two more days.
