Been a lot of talk recently - thanks in large part to a popular post at the wonderful (and newly revamped) Icethetics - about the direction South Florida's hockey club may be traveling with regard to the "third jersey" soon to be unveiled. If you haven't yet read it, do so. It's packed with fun speculation, and the comments section is where the action is. Only hockey fans could take such pride in debating the merits of a legless feline (don't fret...I'm there too).

More after Order 66 is executed after the jump...

So, what says you?

Every so often (now, seemingly more than ever since everyone has access to photoshop) there is talk of changing the logo. Can you imagine this kind of talk in Calgary, Philadelphia, Toronto, or any of a host of other cities? Maybe the Yankees should rid themselves of those boring penstripes, or perhaps the Cowboys should get rid of that silly star on their helmets...

I just don’t get it. Both of our logos are terrific, and have bee around since day one of the franchise… Just because we got rid of one of the two other remaining things from day one (Denis Potvin) doesn’t mean we need to be monkeying around with our logo. I love our logos, and I hope they don’t change a single thing about either of them.

Read this book, and you'll love everything about our logos. We have a history. Let's embrace it, not dump on it.

I totally agree. Florida's logos are fine as they are, some of the best in the league.

Heh, I gotta' admit some love to the rat would be cool.

I like our logos. I loved it since I first saw it. If a 3rd jersey is used this year, then maybe a new, special, 3rd logo could be made but that would be the only case.

I like the Sun logo as a shoulder patch, I would like the primary logo to be changed for the third Jersey or even altogether, make it more fierce.

Logos are being discussed on the main NHL board too. IMO logos should stay the same as much as possible. The current Panthers one is fine and easily identifiable. What I'm trying to say is if your logo changes very often then you sort of lose the brand. The current logo is great and now has tradition. I am all for changing the 3rd jersey every year with a completely different color and logo often as long as it's the alt jersey. The regular logos etc should at least keep for some time. The thing is I think the longer you keep it the harder it becomes to change it and yes there are teams out there who have logos which simply need not change, ever.

Take your pick of teams that have been around for the ages and think about if you could picture their uniform or their main logo to be any different?

I like our logos the way they are. I wouldn't want them to change a thing, hopefully they don't.

Personally, I like the logos just the way they are. The main logo just screams "I'm gonna get you!" and is very menacing and intimidating. The secondary logo, I like, because it represents what the Panthers are: Hockey in South Florida. A palm tree, a sun, and a hockey stick. Very to the point and very creative. It should totally stay.

Also, this hat is a year or two old, but a graphic designer calling himself "Ghetto Farm Boy" does a lot of custom fan-made logos for teams, and I personally *LOVED* the one he did for the Panthers. Its not much of a complete overhaul but more of a slight cosmetic reinterpretation.

Notice that not much change is made, rather than making the kitty more rounded and streamlined. Among the things he kept is the Sun. Also, I like how the word mark has cat scratches on it.

That FP symbol is pretty cool too -- something I could see on a zephyr hat.
