This is a cool idea. I have all of these blogs (and a number of others as well) in my Blogger.com link- so I get the updates as they pop up. (If you do not use a blog reader such as blogger, I highly recommend it!) I read Isles blogs ALL the time... because when you want Islanders information, there really isnt any other option. So, since I look at them all, I thought instead of talking about just one blog listed here like Leafer said that Id say something about all eighteen of them. Please let me know if you agree or if you think Im way off on any of these. Oh and dont forget to vote for your favs this week too.

Here is my Part One:

B.D. Gallofs Blog
B.D. Gallof
Background: This link has changed identity a few times. You might remember BD from when he was the Isles writer over at Hockeybuzz. When he left Hockeybuzz, he started this blog. It was originally called "Islanders Independent" but BD expanded and brought in writers to cover all 30 NHL teams- so now his blog site is called "Hockey Independent". Then it changed a bit further in that he has other writers that cover the Isles there as well. The link now points to everything Islanders-related on the site, so it points to a number of writers... but its still BDs blog.
Style: Informative and comedic in a somewhat sarcastic or ironic manner. BD enjoys photoshops and such, and uses them liberally in his posts- as do many of the writers he has brought in. As a rule, BD is pretty good about breaking news, but his "no kool-aid" philosophy tends to lend itself to him having more to say when things are going wrong than when things are going right. There are certainly exceptions to that, though! I think it might be that the followers he retained from his hockeybuzz days contribute to that kind of a mood. BD is an intelligent guy with numerous Isles-related sources. He is a good source of Lighthouse information. He works with Nick Giglia from Let There Be Light(house) as a good tandem in covering Islanders-related politics. Its a good Islanders blog definitely worth keeping up with.

Hockey Night On Long Island
Hockey Night On Long Island
Background: This is the home site of the Internet radio show of the same name. Hockey Night on Long Island (HNLI) has been dedicated to the New York Islanders for over 3 years.
Style: The blog primarily lets fans know whats going on each HNLI episode and provides links and contact info. There are occasionally some additional blog entries as well, usually sharing bits of interesting trivia or things like that. The show is good, and if you like the show then you will like the blog because it tells you whats going on with the show. If you havent listened to the show, give it a chance!

Islanders Hockey Blog
Islanders Hockey Blog
Background: This is a pretty new Isles blog. A different blog called "Islanders Crazy" melded into this newer site and I think this is more of a collaboration. I dont think it has ever had anything to do with the present Hockey Crazy blog. If anyone has the details on that, please let me know!
Style: This blog is not religiously updated... for example, the newest entry there immediately follows the Toronto win- and misses the following three games. When they do blog before and after games, its usually little more than possible line combos and a you tube clip or two. However, this site occasionally contributes entries that are pretty interesting and arent found everywhere else. An example of this could be a few entries from mid-november dealing with blogs 'covering the coverage' and discussing the Isles rather unique situation of having no newspaper providing free online coverage for the team. This blog site has a message board as well but it is almost completely unused. All in all, the site is a work in progress that shows some promise, but needs to figure out their identity and what their unique contribution to the blogger world might be.

Islanders Outsider
Islanders Outsider
Backgound: Ken over on Islanders Outsider is another one who used to write for Hockeybuzz. I think he was the person in between BD and their current Isles writer, Dee Karl. This is his own Isles blog. Islanders Outsider is part of the Islanders Blog Box.
Style: His Isles entries are well-done, but there are only a handful for the season. He is a dedicated hockey fan, but a periodic blog writer. I follow his site on my blogger, I just dont expect regular entries or day-to-day news.

Isles Blogger
Isles Blogger
Background: Michael has had this blog for a couple of years and its format has essentially remained the same- no link changes, etc! Isles Blogger is part of the Islanders Blog Box.
Style: This blog is focused primarily on game logs. Michael is VERY detailed about what happens in games and when it happens. Its a great resource if you are trying to remember what happened in a particular game. Reading his game logs, you feel it all coming back to you!

Lighthouse Hockey
Lighthouse Hockey
Background: Dominicks Lighthouse Hockey blog is part of the SB Nation blog group. He is an out-of-towner but IMO youre not going to find many other bloggers with his insight, even if they were sitting around in person at every single game and practice.
Style: Very informative and conversational. Updated religiously. I really like Dominicks blog a lot, thats why I wind up linking to it and quoting it so much. His blog has a great balance between hopeful optimism and 'those are the facts' reality. He is also an inteligent writer. He has pregame and postgame writeups as well as GDTs for every Isles game. He also has frequent news updates where he links to Islanders related news all over the Web- particularly useful since Newsday went subscription. His comments section is active and lively, and he maintains a very pleasant interactive mood throughout. He also does cross-team interactives with other SB nation bloggers, so you will get their insights and contributions there as well. Honestly, its not only one of the best Isles blogs around, its just one of my favorite blogs- period.

Islanders Point Blank
Islanders Point Blank
Background: I dont think there is any better-known Islanders blog in the world. Chris Botta, who worked for the Islanders for like 20 years, had what I considered a pretty popular blog back when he worked for the team. Well, that was nothing compared to what was to come lol. Last year, CB created the team-sponsored Islanders Point Blank. I dont think Im exaggerating to say that the blog took the Islanders world by storm, as he was providing insider news to hungry Isles fans 24/7, often posting a half a dozen times a day. Inexplicably (or explicably, really- if you remember how cheap our organization is lol) the Isles no longer sponsor Point Blank. Since the start of this season, AOL Fanhouse (for whom Botta is now a contributing writer) now sponsors Bottas Isles blog. According to Botta, the people at AOL were genuinely shocked at the multitude of loyal Isles fans clicking his site religiously every day. They didnt realize Isles fanatics existed lol. (Incidentally, Point Blank is NOT part of the Islanders Blog Box, Chris Botta was the catalyst for the original creation of the Blog Box itself.)
Style: Informative and informative. Not to mention informative lol. Its the information that makes me click on Bottas blog every day. Botta will editorialize as well, and its interesting to see what he has to say about things. He knows the organization better than any of us do, and even though the Isles no longer sponsor him he still knows who to call to get answers, even if he cant always get them. The good thing is, he keeps Isles fans in the know. At a time when Isles fans no longer even have a single online newspaper with a dedicated Isles writer, his information is like a lifeline for Isles fans everywhere. CB has pregame and postgames for every game, he does interactive chats for most away games, keeps Isles fans informed regarding the Lighthouse project, and normally doesnt go more than a day without providing stories, interviews, you name it. His comments section does not lend itself to conversation the way that, say, Lighthouse Hockey does, but it is very high volume and is always an interesting read- even if you dont agree with what people are saying lol. A bonus of this blog? Sharply increased Islanders coverage over on AOL Fanhouse!

7th Woman
Unique perspectives from 7th Woman
Background: Dee is a diehard who has had this blog for a number of years. She is now the ISles writer over on Hocvkeybuzz, but she keeps Islanders 7th woman going because the entries on the two sites are not always the same. 7th woman is also part of the Islanders Blog Box.
Style: Editorial/informational. Regularly updated. The response to Dees writing over at Hockeybuzz has been mixed, but I think that goes back to how that particular site seems to crave a certain mood or flavor in their coverage. Her writing is good... and over time more people have noticed. Dee attends many practices and all sorts of Isles-related events, so her blog is a good source to learn about upcoming things like that or to hear about what happened at them. Dee is another good source of Lighthouse information.

Islanders 360
Islanders 360
Background: Carey has had the blog for a couple of years now, its another blog that has stayed with the same link and format for a while. Islanders 360 is part of the Islanders Blog Box.
Style: Periodic editorials. The entries are pretty meaty, but there arent a lot of them. I love the stats/standings analysis type entries, but thats just how I roll lol. Carey is another blogger who is a dedicated hockey fan, but a periodic blog writer. I follow this site on my blogger too, I just dont expect regular entries or day-to-day news.

Again some great blogs here as well!

Advertising is seeming to be a big thing on some of these blogs, it kind of gets in the way and some of the advertisements have nothing to do with the blog itself.

Which brings me to my next point, I noticed some of these blogs were actual New York blogs, not just for the Islanders.

Other than that, I love the live blogs and podcasts!

Here is my review, Part 2:

On The NY Isles Scene
On The NY Isles Scene
Background: Angie has been writing on this blog for a couple of years. Christine writes there as well, but Angie is the one who mainly takes the reigns. Their motto is that theirs is "a blog by two New York Islanders fans who stay true to the fellas wearing orange, white and blue... but think the Isles organization has some shaping up to do."
Style: Editorials and game/player review type of entries. Mostly Islanders related, with occasional editorials on other NHL-related subjects. Pretty straightforward Isles blog. I think this good blog would become even better from self-analytical questions such as, "What is this blog known for?" and "What makes this blog different than the others?" It would be great for them to stand out more!

A View From Section 317
A View From Section 317
Background: Gary is a former Islanders Booster Club President and 20+ year season ticket holder who has been doing the blog since 06. View from Section 317 is part of the Islanders Blog Box.
Style: This blog is primarily focused on the Islanders, with occasional entries on football or other sports. Gary will post in a fairly regular manner, but will sometimes lapse in coverage as seen throughout a few weeks in November. All in all its still a good blog to keep track of!

The Tiger Track
The Tiger Track
Background: Tom Liodice has done this blog focusing on both the Bridgeport Sound Tigers and the New York Islanders since 2007. Tiger Track is part of the Islanders Blog box.
Style: This blog was a must-check last season, offering game blogs during home games, Islanders and Sound Tigers news, and things like that. However, this season the blog is no longer being updated with any kind of regularity. There have only been four editorial entries so far this hockey season. Its worth checking just to see if Tom starts working on it regularly once again.

Off The Post
Off The Post: Inching Closer to the Future
Background: Rob is a young guy who has a blog over on hockeybuzz. Off the Post is part of the Islanders Blog box.
Style: Editorial and informative. His blog is not part of Hockeybuzz itself, it has its own feel to it. His entries tend to focus on the positives. In short, Robs entries are well written and are a nice read.

Hockey Crazy
Hockey Crazy
Background: This blog is done by "MrLawyerDude" an old-school Islanders fan and Long Islander. It is a relatively new blog started last season.
Style: It is tough to pin down a style for this blog because it was apparently on hiatus until a month ago. Since then, there have been maybe a half a dozen entries. What is there is editorial-based and has a bit of a venting type feel to them, but it is a small sample. One can only hope that means the blog will be updated on a regular basis in the future, and then a better analysis of its style could be generated.

Let There Be Light(house)
Let There Be Light(house)
Background: This blog is the work of Nick Giglia, a young Long Islander who is involved in local business, local politics, and an unquestionable love of the NY Islanders.
Style: Extremely informative, with unbiased analysis and editorial viewpoints. Nicks blog is primarily focused on the Lighthouse project, the development of the Islanders arena and surrounding area. His blog analyzes local politics and local media and explains the unbelievably intricate and confusing aspects of the agonizingly long process that is currently taking place regarding this development. His blog is updated whenever there is any news regarding the development... which at some times is daily, but at other times (such as now) not as often. Nicks posts are substantial and contain a great deal of current and background information. Nicks blog is an absolute must read for anyone who wants to know what is going on with the project on Long Island.

Okposo.net
Okposo.net
Background: Kenneth, aka Okposo Island, started this blog right after the Islanders drafted Kyle. Okposo. net is part of the Islanders Blog Box.
Style: The blog does have a naturally Kyle-centric slant, but hey- he is one of the best players on this team and a shining young star for the future so why not, right? :) The blog does talk about the team itself as well and its worth checking out, even if it isnt a high-volume blog.

New York Islanders Fan Central
New York Islanders Fan Central
Background: This is a very involved blog that has changed quite a bit over the last half a year. The writer of NYIFanCentral is a smart and dedicated Islanders fan, and the site is more than just a blog- the site is really a news and information collection.
Style: The blog entries on the site are editorial and informational. The site was on hiatus for a while, still collecting news but contributing no original material. Fortunately, the site is back to producing new content- albeit in a somewhat changed form. As was stated on the site, fans are to expect fewer NYIFC blog entries as things move forward. The site is now more Twitter-specific. However, you do not have to actually have or use Twitter yourself to get the updates, they stream rigth there on the site. There are usually several twitter updates daily with news, insights, and/or links. Definitely worth checking regularly.

Notes From Forever 1940
Notes From Forever 1940
Background: Eric has been a statistician on Islanders telecasts since 1982. He started his blog to stare his statistical findings with the online world.
Style: Updated on a regular basis. Eric does a great job getting stats together before and after games. The best part of Erics blog is the 'Stat Trick'- a collection of statistical observations that follow Islanders games. Since the Islanders no longer have any type of a post game (although the Devils and Rangers still DO) this kind of information no longer has an outlet other than this blog and the fans who know about it, read it, and enjoy it. I quote this blog a lot becuase I find the information Eric puts together to be a lot of fun. I highly recommend following Erics blog because the info you find there you really arent getting elsewhere.

After posting my reviews I figured Id also put up my picks for the best Isles blogs (out of the ones listed here.) I know it says to pick 9, but thats tough to do... depending on the entry, any of the blogs listed here can make it into the top 9. For me, these are the ones I seem to read and/or quote the most:

Islanders Point Blank
Lighthouse Hockey
Let There Be Light(house)
Notes From Forever 1940
New York Islanders Fan Central
B.D. Gallof

Its not every day you see a blog dedicated to a player. I really like Okposo.net. There is some cool insight on K.O as well as informative stuff on the team in general. Its a great place for a Okposo fan to get news on their favorite player as well as their favorite team.

That's true. I mean some writers do it on just one team, but one player? It has to be a little hard to keep an updated blog on just one player.

Great blog as well!
