I bought a pair of skates off of ebay a few weeks ago and finally had the chance to give them a run out and found that despite fitting perfectly before I got on the ice that after a 20-30 minute period of skating my soles hurt quite a lot and became uncomfortable.. almost like they were going numb but still had some feeling. The skates are a 10.5 and I'm a 10 or 11 (11 being due to having wide feet) and so I thought they would have been perfect. So to cut a long story shot I've decided they aren't the right size but I was wanting a bit of advice on whether it could be down to the width that the soles began to hurt?
I've never had my own skates before so I'm not sure if what I was experiencing is normal but after reading a lot of sites online I found something interesting called heat moulding boots and after a trip to the local Ice skating shop I found a pair that could be heat moulded. The guy in the shop seems to be a little clueless about what was good and bad with Ice skates so when I asked about heat moulding he said there was a machine in the shop and a guy who could use it but he wasn't in that day. So now I've said I'll go back in on Wednesday to try on a pair of boots that can be heat moulded and what I'm wondering is if it's worth moulding the boot before you've actually used them or is it something you do if you can't get along with the shape etc?
Also when moulded would the width change at all?

Molding them might change the width slightly but in the end I think you are going to find that you simply need wider skates.

Skates have a qualifier for width. What letter describes the width of your skates.
Molding the skate to make it wider won't do anything.
Also... when you get a new pair of skates... you are going to have to fight through 3-5 times out on them until they are broken in. Thats just part of it.
Unless they are just unbarable of course.

You might ask the shop if they "punch Out" skates. Some skates can be punched out with a tool that gives them a bit more width by the toes.
You might ask about having the skates you bought off of eBay being heat molded.
