This is the first of two meetings between these two Original 6 teams. The second will be on March 9 in Chicago (and I'll be at that game).

Quote

Team Scope:

Blackhawks
: For the third time during this skid, the Blackhawks fell to the Predators. On Tuesday, rookie defenseman Ryan Ellis scored the winner with 5:42 left in the third period to give the Predators a 3-2 win.

Blackhawks goaltender Ray Emery, starting for the fourth time in five games, absorbed the loss after allowing three goals on 19 shots. Still, coach Joel Quenneville feels the team is close to breaking the slide.

"When you look at this stretch we have had here -- we have found different ways to not come out on top," Quenneville said. "Tonight, it looked like we were doing the things we wanted to do and that we were moving in the right direction."

Rangers: In their 3-0 win in Boston on Tuesday, the Rangers weren't at their best, but Henrik Lundqvist was.

Lundqvist made 42 saves, including 32 during the final two periods, as the Rangers extended their lead in the Eastern Conference to nine points heading into Wednesday's action.

"We know we need to be better than we were tonight as a whole," forward Brandon Dubinsky said. "I know Torts (John Tortorella) and the coaching staff feel the same way. We're going to come in tomorrow and I'm sure they're going to show us some of the things we need to work on. We'll figure it out and know that in order to win, we can't play that way."

Notable Injuries:
Blackhawks
:
Daniel Carcillo (Knee)
Steve Montador (Upper Body)
Niklas Hjalmarsson (Concussion-like symptoms)

Rangers:
Michael Sauer (Concussion)
Ruslan Fedotenko (Head)

Team Leaders:

:
Jonathan Toews - 27 Goals (Tied for 5th in League)
Marian Hossa/Patrick Kane - 33 Assists
Marian Hossa - 54 Points
Marian Hossa - +19
Daniel Carcillo - 82 PIM

Rangers:
Marian Gaborik - 27 Goals (Tied for 5th in League)
Derek Stepan - 26 Assists
Marian Gaborik - 49 Points
Michael DelZotto - +27 (3rd in League)
Brandon Prust - 116 PIM

Can we go for 10 in a row?
I think we can get there. And by Saturday we'll have a new head coach!

I don't think it will be quite that soon. If after the Hawks get home and they play as poorly as they are now and get booed off the ice after each period and the game and they don't step it up a lot and the streak extends several more games, then maybe. Bowman made it clear just a few days ago that he is committed to Quenneville. Frankly, I think they both should be committed.

GMs always say "*insert coach name* has my complete support....." right before the bury the Kabar in the coach's back.

Plump plump, fizz fizz, oh what a relief it is. The refs lost a bundle here tonight man, did they so not want the Hawks to win or what. I never blame diddly on the refs, but wow , it seemed a tad bias. Well , as I said early Jan. the refs don't matter if you take care of your business. Tonight proves it. Our defense after 9 penalties , wait no that can't be right can it? Foley said 4 shots allowed on goal by the Hawks after 9 short handed. That has to be wrong.
I'm pleased, and Crawford, may have played his best game this year , even clearing the zone from behind the net.

I saw us actually going out and deserving some roughing penalties! To be honest it was a welcome sight considering how damned soft we've been lately.

Well, that sucks. Even with as good as the Rangers are playing this season, apparently they are still the cure for other team's ailments.

I worked some magic and altered history, the Hawks were to lose this game, but I made them win this and to lose the Jackets game.

Good game Hawks, glad to see the streak end.

Should be a good one vs Columbus. I hope its good and not ugly on the scoreboard for us.
