Continuing to attain considerable inroads in their preparations for their season premiere in the ECHL in the league’s 25th Anniversary Season, the Evansville IceMen have advanced their training camp roster to a total of 11 with their first-ever performing brother act.
IceMen General Manager/Head Coach Rich Kromm has announced that first-year defenseman AARON GENS has assented to contract terms and inked his first-ever pro pact under the banner of the IceMen.
Set to report to training camp during the last week of September, a mere one month away, Gens, 25, will be approaching his rookie professional campaign, bringing with him a prominent portfolio of proficiency from the defense position through both a stellar junior ‘A’ and Division I collegiate career.
The younger brother of Evansville All-Star defenseman Matt Gens, Aaron recently completed a masterful 4-year career at Division I U. of Alaska/Fairbanks, preceded by an outstanding four-year tour of duty in the NAHL with the Topeka Roadrunners.
Coach Kromm is looking forward to penning a second Gens name on his lineup card in the upcoming season. “We are fortunate to be able to sign Aaron to an ECHL contract. He is a well-rounded defenseman who is coming out of a strong Division I program at Alaska/Fairbanks. We are looking for him to provide some significant offense from our back end, and, essentially, be a steady, reliable defenseman in the fashion of his older brother Matt.”
Aaron and Matt Gens will form the first-ever brothers’ combination in the history of the IceMen AA club. Older brother, Matt, captured the CHL scoring crown among defensemen last season with 65(12-35-47).
