Consider this a continuation of our last ECHL affiliate thread. The Alaska Aces are no longer the Blues' ECHL affiliate, so I've created this thread to keep us updated on the happenings of our new affiliate, the Evansville Icemen.

A signing to get this thread started:

Continuing to attain considerable inroads in their preparations for their season premiere in the ECHL in the league’s 25th Anniversary Season, the Evansville IceMen have advanced their training camp roster to a total of 11 with their first-ever performing brother act.

IceMen General Manager/Head Coach Rich Kromm has announced that first-year defenseman AARON GENS has assented to contract terms and inked his first-ever pro pact under the banner of the IceMen.

Set to report to training camp during the last week of September, a mere one month away, Gens, 25, will be approaching his rookie professional campaign, bringing with him a prominent portfolio of proficiency from the defense position through both a stellar junior ‘A’ and Division I collegiate career.

The younger brother of Evansville All-Star defenseman Matt Gens, Aaron recently completed a masterful 4-year career at Division I U. of Alaska/Fairbanks, preceded by an outstanding four-year tour of duty in the NAHL with the Topeka Roadrunners.

Coach Kromm is looking forward to penning a second Gens name on his lineup card in the upcoming season. “We are fortunate to be able to sign Aaron to an ECHL contract. He is a well-rounded defenseman who is coming out of a strong Division I program at Alaska/Fairbanks. We are looking for him to provide some significant offense from our back end, and, essentially, be a steady, reliable defenseman in the fashion of his older brother Matt.”

Aaron and Matt Gens will form the first-ever brothers’ combination in the history of the IceMen AA club. Older brother, Matt, captured the CHL scoring crown among defensemen last season with 65(12-35-47).

With the sights and sounds of their first-ever training camp as members of the ECHL ever so closer, the Evansville IceMen have increased their overall roster to 15-players, with 13 committed to contract deals and two more placed on tryout agreements.

Today, General Manager/Head Coach Rich Kromm has announced that right wings PATRICK KENNEDY and DANIEL MORIARTY have assented to terms with the Evansville club for the upcoming 2012-13 campaign.

Set to enter his second full season in the professional ranks, KENNEDY, 23, is not in unfamiliar territory as far as ECHL on-ice warfare is concerned. The muscular 6-3, 203lb forward made his pro premiere in 2011-12 with both the Trenton Titans and Idaho Steelheads, playing a combined 41-games while collecting 19-points through 9-goals, 10-assists with 24-PIM. His offensive output included 4-PPG and 2-FG along with 77-SOG. Prior to his pro career debut of last season, the Dorchester, Ontario product enjoyed an outstanding four-year collegiate career at Cornell U, of the highly-prestigious Division I ECAC Conference.

As for MORIARTY, 25, this will not be his first time around with the IceMen club. In fact, the rugged 5-9, 185lb sparkplug experienced a brief stint in Evansville near the conclusion of the 2011-12 season, arriving right off the campus of Harvard U, to show his wares in his pro debut. Signed as a free agent in March 2012, the Western Canadian-bred from Estevan, SK unveiled his talents and overall ability in a pair of post-season playoff encounters donning the navy of the hometown team.

With their first-ever ECHL training camp less than a week henceforth, the Evansville IceMen have landed another major talent for the 2012-13 roster.

IceMen GM/Head Coach Rich Kromm has announced that top-flight center DALE MAHOVSKY has acceded to terms and will be reporting on the starting date of Evansville’s 2012 training camp.

The 6-0, 194lb standout is coming off another exemplary campaign in 2011-12 with Evansville's former CHL divisional rivals, the Missouri Mavericks. In his lone season with the Mavs, he finished fifth in team scoring, authoring 54-points in 66-games, with 69-PIM, having actually been the league’s leading scorer through the opening month of the last season.

All-Star defenseman DANIEL TETRAULT has agreed to terms and will be arriving right on time for the commencement of the team’s annual rites of early autumn.

GM/Coach Kromm expressed much enthusiasm in reaching accord with his 15th IceMen team signee. “Dan is a top, veteran who has always played with a lot of character and grit. He plays a physical game with considerable offensive upside. He should be a very steady addition and influence to our veteran group.”

Evansville, IN. – The IceMen battled their way back from a 3-1 deficit, but came up short against the still unbeaten Trenton Titans.

All three IceMen goals came in the second period, two of which coming just :53 apart during the period’s final minute. At the time, the game was tied, 3-3.

Evansville managed to produce on the man-advantage, something that did not come to fruition in their opening night loss against Fort Wayne. The IceMen power play was 2-for-5 on the night, correlating to a 40 percent conversion rate.

IceMen forward Josh Beaulieu tallied the team’s first goal of the game on a rebound at the 2:47 mark of the second period. Also scoring for the IceMen were defenseman Daniel Tetrault, 19:01 in the second, and forward Tyler Shattock, 19:54 also in the second.

Rookie goaltender Rob Madore made his IceMen debut in-net and allowed four goals on 33 shots, resulting in a .892 save percentage.

Two of the game’s three stars were from the IceMen. First star was Shattock, who scored a goal, had an assist, and finished with a +1 rating. Third star was forward Brett Sonne, who is credited with an assist.

Fort Wayne, IN – The IceMen received their first point of the season against the Komets, but lost in a shootout that took all five shooters to decide.

With the score tied 1-1 in the second period, ex Rivermen center Brett Sonne scored his second goal of the season, on the power play. Evansville entered the third period with the 2-1 lead, but the Komets equalized just 38 seconds in when Fort Wayne Center Eric Giosa scored his third goal of the season.

The Komets scored a go-ahead goal at the 11:37 mark of the third period when Left Winger Josh Brittain tallied his first on the year. Answering for the IceMen was Right Winger Patrick Kennedy at the 13:21 point in the third period. This was Kennedy’s first goal as a member of the IceMen.

With the score tied at three, overtime was inevitable. The overtime period featured defense as the teams combined for just five shots on goal.

The shootout, however, was all offensive. IceMen Forwards Dan Gendur and Dale Mahovsky scored goals.

Returning in-net for the IceMen was rookie Paul Karpowich. Saving 33 of 36 shots, Karpowich racked up a .916 save percentage on the night.

The IceMen are still searching for their first ECHL victory as they are now 0-2-1 on the season.

The IceMen have announced on this date some additional player roster transactions which have taken effect immediately.

The St. Louis Blues have recalled left wing ANTHONY NIGRO and center BRETT SONNE and re-assigned both players to their AHL affiliate, the Peoria Rivermen.

In a separate transaction, the IceMen have acquired center NATHAN MOON from Cincinnati in trade with the Cyclones.

Nigro, a third year pro, saw action in 3-games with Evansville after launching the current campaign in Peoria with the Rivermen.

Sonne, presently in his fourth pro campaign, had emerged as Evansville’s top point-meister, registering 7-points in 7-games on 3-goals, 4-assists and 2-PPG.

Moon, 22, is beginning his second pro season, having sculpted his craft in his rookie campaign of 2011-12 exclusively in the AHL with the Worcester Sharks, the principal affiliate of the NHL San Jose Sharks.
