CSNBayArea - Ryane Clowe will practice on Thursday, and it is up to him whether or not he plays in the San Francisco Bulls' home game on Friday night.

Nice to see he'll actually get some action out of this instead of just working out with the team!

In case Ryane Clowe signing with the Sharks' ECHL affiliate wasn't strange enough, San Francisco Bulls president and head coach Pat Curcio hinted today that the San Jose winger might be behind the bench as a temporary assistant coach for Friday's game against Stockton and beyond.

As David Pollak reported last week, Clowe has already begun practicing with the Bulls and may end up lacing up the skates for a game at some point. Until then, he'll have to settle for playing the puck from behind the bench while assisting Curcio. Those skills should especially come in handy on Saturday when the Bulls take on the Los Angeles Kings' ECHL affiliate (now with 100% more Devin Setoguchi) Ontario Reign.

The joke was that he tried to play from behind the bench last year. That didn't work out too well. :-)

It worked out great, I don't know what you're talking about. He stopped an odd-man rush and there were no ill-effects that came of it.

Clowe has no plans to play for Bulls ... yet

Sharks forward Ryane Clowe has done everything in his power to stay active during the NHL lockout, which is now in its eighth week.

He’s been to Vail, Colorado, to train and play with a group that included and was organized by Penguins star Sidney Crosby. Later, that assemblage changed locales and convened in Dallas, Texas for some more intense practices and scrimmages. In between, Clowe has been at Sharks Ice, skating with the few remaining Sharks teammates of his that are still within driving distance as opposed to some far-off country.

Now, he’s an official member of the ECHL’s San Francisco Bulls, but won’t suit up for either of their games this weekend at the Cow Palace. Instead, he’s practicing with the first-year squad, hoping to stay in tip-top shape should the NHL and its players’ association strike a deal for a shortened season.

More!
