Vancouver Canucks owner Francesco Aquilini will travel across the continent this weekend for what is expected to be a historic dinner with Pavel Bure. There, he will outline the organization’s plan to honour the Hall of Fame inductee and the most electrifying player in Canucks history.

I sure hope Odjick isn't wrong. I came across the article when he re-tweeted it, so... if this wasn't Aquilini's plan, it should be!

(So exciting!)

Also, I'm really sad that I can't be in Toronto this weekend for the HHOF festivities, but I will be watching intently on TSN.

The Vancouver Sun now claims that the number retirement isn't happening after all, simply on the basis that nobody in the Canucks organization has commented on it, and that must mean the plan never existed. Iain MacIntyre's logic sucks, in my opinion. Also, he sounds awfully bitter. If leaving a team on less than positive terms was a valid reason for not retiring a number, there are a few numbers league-wide that would not be in the rafters (the only example off the top of my head is Roy's #33, but I imagine there are others. And no, I can't be bothered to look them up).

In short, I say "PFFFFFFFTT" to this whole thing.

Hmmmm, interesting change of tune here for sure. I would like to think they make the right choice as well, Bure is one of those guys whos jersey you should retire IMO.

Um... HE'S STILL GOING INTO THE HALL OF FAME!!! Sheesh. You don't have to do anything. But I will watch the millions of hours of Bure highlights, and possibly some of the less depressing games in the '94 finals.

Actually I really do like watching Bure highlight reel material. It's just that there's a 3-hour video or something on the YouTubes and I don't know if I can sit through that much at once.

Plus, I'm just fussing because it makes her fuss and it's funny.

I liked Pavel Bure much better the first time he played hockey.... back when he called himself Petr Klima.

They can't even come up with 3 hours of Bure highlights? What the hell is he doing going into the Hall of Fame then?!

Whether he deserves to be in the Hall of Fame due to his shortened career is open to debate.
However, he was one of the most fearless, electrifying players I have ever had the joy of watching. Every time he touched the puck there was the chance of seeing a highlight.

I'll find more, if you want.

In other news, Jason Botchford (the Vancouver Province guy from the first article posted in this thread) still insists that Aquilini will be having dinner with Bure on Saturday, and possible jersey retirement will be a topic of conversation. I believe him... because I want to. What else do they have to talk about? "So... I bought the Canucks a few years after you left. Good to see you." "Yeah... want to split some nachos for an appetizer?" You know? Awkward.
