Are you talking about the revision to faceoffs?

more so the increased emphasis on calling a minor penalty any time a players hand is on top of the puck...
last night a Blues player got knocked down, landed on the puck and received a penalty...

It looks like the ref.s where told to stop the handling which like other years is the rule to go after. So if a players hand go's anyplace near a puck you can expect it to be whistled down. You used to be able to catch it and drop it and take off but the "newer " guys , guys who never ref.ed in the major jr.s will make amendments to the rules at least to start the yr.s (season) but usually "cool" off and let them play.Is anyone else getting tired of this "penalty" cause this shit is getting freaking annoying 3 days in....

It all comes down to " gaining an advantage", theres no need to blow a play down if dropped without directing which of course is a ref.s decision, was it directed or dropped with out directing. ME, I feel that if a player closes his hand/glove , its out of site and should be blown down. Now , we are asking a ref. to be perfect in his call or no call.In theory it's not a bad idea if you want to keep the action going - make stopping the puck for a face off or prevent the other team having control of the puck a penalty.
In reality, not such a good idea. The refs have to get the intent of the hand on the puck part right before they make the call. Someone lying on the ice with pressure coming from the other team? Maybe a penalty... Falling on your ass? Not at all.
