TSN's story

"We have a potential deal in place with one team that has to do something with another player that they have — and it's not who anybody thinks it is — and so we have to wait. (But) we've been offered packages that don't fit what our plan is, what we need," Gillis told the Sun.

(Vancouver Sun's story)

Not really news, but whatever.

Gillis is bluffing. Why else say anything to anyone until the after the deal is signed sealed and delivered?

He's obviously getting desperate to push someone to up the ante.

Gillis is in no hurry to make a deal. Having both this year is no problem. In fact, with the compressed schedule, having 2 more than capable goalies is not a bad thing.
There is no dressing room drama or cap issue.
Will Luongo be moved soon. Possibly. In fact, probable. But unless Gillis gets a deal he likes, there is no need for him to panic. There will be a couple of teams more than interested come trade deadline, if both are still with the Canucks.

They SHOULDNT be in a hurry to make a deal. but then WTH is with the cryptic comments to the media? Whats the point of doing that? Its nuts. I agree with LS that it seems desperate.

I dont think they should move him at all this season. I think its a bad idea.

LOL... JFC we have to have some limits over here in NY!
I dont think I would trade DiPietro for either of them- and Im not even 100% kidding about that part.Ricks gonna retire when those two are still playing, and I wouldnt want to be the team paying either of them. If we were, thered just be them, JT, Moulson, Grabs, and a bunch of minimum wagers lol.

Trading a player like Luongo is going to take creativity. The number of teams he will agree to go to currently is 1 (Florida Panthers). The Panthers have assets Gillis wants but they are not willing to part with them, hence be creative. Look at the trade the way NBA deals get done get a third team involved. I suggest the following

Canucks send Luongo and prospect Yan Sauve and a conditional pick to Florida, Florida in turn sends Scott Clemmenssen a 1st round pick and goalie prospect Jacob Markstrom to the Islanders. The Islanders in turn send Clemmenssen, Nino Niedderreiter, Frans Nielsen to the Canucks. All teams get what they want/need.

Me, too... which is nuts.
I am pretty much the opposite of a Luongo defender as a rule, but the way he is being treated pretty much sucks.

Eddie Lack's hip surgery could alter the Vancouver Canucks' goaltending plans for next season, but should not affect the potential trade of Roberto Luongo.

Lack, who hasn't played for Vancouver's AHL affiliate in Chicago since Nov. 24, had hip surgery Tuesday in Vale, Colo., and is gone for the season. The Canucks put his recovery time at up to six months and would not provide any specific details on what type of surgery Lack underwent.
