Well, there was originally a projected mention of the Preds moving to the SE, but then there was that whole stupid thing they tried to implement that made about zero sense.
For What it's worth, I think that is what makes the most sense.
I don't know if the other things need to happen, but if it would help with traveling, then sure.

I didn't see that about moving the Preds to the Southeast division. But Yeah. I'm so glad that radical realignment idea they threw out there last summer didn't get any traction. None of that made any sense.

I remember reading that Detroit was promised that they would one day return again to the east. They are EST so I can understand why they would be annoyed being in a division where nobody is in their time zone and having a spot open up in the east and it NOT being them that slots in to it. They will not be happy if a team that is not EST is put into the east and they arent.
I was just talking about this with BruinsHawksGal yesterday. Remember, the owners and NHL did pass it and agree to it, the NHLPA would have rejected anything at that point no matter what because they were trying to make a point about how powerful they were. their rejection was IMO more related to posturing for the CBA debate than anyhting else. I am fully expecting it to be at the forefront after this season is over. I do not think it is over and done with.

While some of the ideas in this thread is aesthetically geographically, the NHL appears to be more concerned with time zone differences, moreso than anything else.

That's putting a lot of value in things that don't matter IMO. Dallas is Central, everybody else is on Pacific time in that division, The Northwest has Pacific, Mountain AND Central time zones. Geography should be by far the most important aspect. While some of the ideas in this thread is aesthetically geographically, the NHL appears to be more concerned with time zone differences, moreso than anything else.

If geography is most important thing. We'd have to agree Detroit should be with Toronto, Columbus, Chicago, Pittsburgh? That's putting a lot of value in things that don't matter IMO. The importance placed on time zone differences has everything to do with a drop in TV ratings during late night away games on week nights. Travel certainly affects costs, but not as much as a Divisional game that is only being watched by those fortunate to catch the game at a 7:00 PM start. And see that just doesn't make sense to me. I believe that lessening a team's travel should be of far more importance than time zones. But I'm not running the NHL so I don't know what they're reasonings are for that.
Speaking of time zone's and having grown up in Alabama I have never figured out why Alabama and most of Tennessee is in the Central Time Zone. We really should be in the Eastern Time Zone.
