Arthur Staple reports that the Islanders have acquired Tim Thomas from the Bruins for a conditional second rounder in 2014 or 2015.

Staple notes that the move is salary cap related as the Islanders needed to make sure that they are over the cap floor.

I said it before and I'll say it again, I love Thomas for what he did for the Bruins and I'll never forget that. That being said, it's worth it to just move on. He obviously wasn't interested in playing for the Bruins again. I'm glad we can just move on.

The only team that is winning here are the Bruins. And instead of them paying US to take their worthless caphit for a player who will not play again, we are paying THEM for the pleasure of giving them capspace? What the fuck is GOOD about that? I could see it as bad, or nothing, but not good.

But they already ARE over the cap floor. They dont need to be MORE over it.

Unless-

It could be that they are getting rid of someone who makes enough salary that they would wind up below the cap floor.
There arent that many players who make money on this team.
Did Lubo fail his physical?
Is Rick being sent to Bridgeport?
Are the Isles trading one of their young forwards?

God DAMNIT the Isles dont need a distraction like this when they are playing the Rangers tonight. DAMNIT.

this paints a different picture.
The Isles are not giving up ANYTHING for Tim Thomas because he is not going to play for this team.

All they are doing is holding his caphit (not actually paying him because he is suspended) until the end of the season.

Definely agree, I think this is a great deal for the Bruins and the only thing I get is the Islanders are collecting old goalies, first, Nabokov and now Thomas. Good luck to the Islanders trying to convince thomas back onto the ice.
