I'm not as well informed on other teams (besides my favorite teams (Jets and Red Wings) as I would like to be. I used to be more well known on the NHL as a whole when ESPN used to cover the NHL but since they no longer do my info and knowledge about other teams has lagged behind. I usually find out things about teams certain players are playing for way after the fact. It's embarrassing to me as big of fan of the NHL as I am. :blue:

But I was just looking at some teams rosters and was stunned to see that the Avalanche's captain is Gabriel Landeskog. The reason being is because he's only 20 years old and only in his 2nd NHL season. Captain's are usually guys that have been in the NHL for many, many seasons and usually have been with the same team for a while. I was actually surprised that Milan Hejduk wasn't the Captain.

But my question is has there ever been another NHL Captain at such a young age and with so little NHL time?

Vinny Lecavalier was made captain when he was only 19. Tortorella later took it away from him.

Yzerman was at 21..

Um, let's see.

Naming a rookie captain is beyond lame. I don't care how good of a player he might be, how can his teammates possibly take him seriously behind closed doors?

Hejduk was captain last year, but resigned the role (For reasons I do not know)

I honestly dont have a problem with Landy wearing the C...

Landeskog was the youngest player to ever be named captain and 2nd or 3rd youngest to play in a game as a captain

Ok. Thanks. I wonder why Hejduk would give up being the Captain. It's such an honor and responsibility to be named Captain.

Ok thanks. I didn't know Stevie Y was that young when he became the Wings Captain.

Even Gretzky was named captain at a young age. First season replacing Lee Fogolin was the 83-84 season, making him 22 at the time. (Oddly enough, it was also the first Cup championship for them.)
