From NHL.com.

Season series: This is the second of three meetings. The Stars edged out the Oilers 3-2 on overtime in their first match up this season last Wednesday. Jaromir Jagr notched the game-winning goal at the 1:46 mark of the extra session.

Big story: The Oilers and Stars are neck-and-neck in the Western Conference standings at ninth and 10th place, respectively. Both teams are twelve games into the shortened season, making the two points up for grabs in Tuesday’s contest all the more important.

Team Scope:

Stars: The Stars are looking to extend their current streak to four straight wins as they open their three-game Western Canadian trip in Edmonton.

Dallas finally got its power play in order after scoring just once in 16 opportunities prior to Friday’s 3-1 win against Anaheim. The Stars notched two power-play goals in the first period of that contest, with Trevor Daley and Jamie Benn each cashing in.

"Just keep working on it, watching some video, working on it in practice," Benn said of the power-play unit's success. "I think it just comes down to shooting pucks and keeping it simple and I think we did that tonight."

Oilers: If netminder Devan Dubnyk performs half as well as he did in Sunday’s 3-1 win against the Columbus Blue Jackets, then the Oilers likely to have little to worry about against the Stars.

Dubnyk stopped 39 shots in that contest while his teammates rifled off just 14 shots of their own.

“It was a fun game to play and obviously a little more work than usual, but that’s my job -- to stop everything that comes to me,” Dubnyk said. “It’s nice to steal a win for the team.”

The Oilers also spent their off day addressing penalty troubles because they currently rank 26th overall in minor penalties and they have been shorthanded 61 times this season – more than any other team in the League.

“It's something we're addressing here and trying to correct," Oilers coach Ralph Krueger told the team’s official website. "There's a lot of areas of improvement. We've been speaking about them on a weekly basis. One week it's the d-zone coverage, another week it's the turnovers in the neutral zone. At present, we're trying to get our shorthanded (situations) under control."

Who's hot: Sam Gagner leads the Oilers offense with 13 points so far this season (four goals, nine assists), including a goal and an assist in his last outing. … Veteran forward Jaromir Jagr has three points in as many games for the Stars, and his eight points are a team-best.

Injury report: Edmonton will be without forwards Ryan Jones (eye), Shawn Horcoff (hand) and Anton Lander (foot). Center Eric Belanger (toe) could make his return. … Dallas forward Ray Whitney (foot) is on injured reserve and is expected to miss 4-6 weeks.

Sounds like Whitney and Smyth could be healthy scratches for tonight.

We will see.

That would be interesting. Smytty has been unusually undisciplined the last few games, so maybe its a wake up call. Of course, it didn't work for Whitney last time.

Jagr makes it 3-1 and I'm going to bed. This is too painful to watch. I better not do a write up now because it might be a little over the top.

Good lord Lehtonen has to be a top 3 in the NHL goalie right now. he isn't based on his numbers, but his play says he is... b/c he is the only reason we won this game and a number of others. the Stars have streaks of greatness that is surrounded by way too much time in our end and needless turnovers. Oilers skated circles around them last night. Im surprised Eberle didnt fire bomb the place out of frustration after getting stoned on his breakaway.

That game was definitely the Oilers to lose... They dominated what I feel to be most of the game. We just happened to get the lucky bounces, and stellar goaltending...

Oilers win one they shouldn't against the Jackets lose one they maybe should have won against the Stars.

I've always said sports balances out at some point. From wins, loses, refs good calls and bad, it always balances out.

As was said before, after winning a game they didn't deserve against Clodumbus, they lost won they could have won against Dallas. Oh well. Been watching them lose to Dallas since the late 90s...

Plus
-Taylor Hall played a dominant puck rushing game last night. Ridiculous, the things he can do at speed. Also, was funny to see him win his lone faceoff opportunity with a shot on net.
-Ben Eager actually played a good game last night. Time to buy a scratch ticket.

Minus
-The PP, which was scoring at unsustainbly high percentages early, has come back to earth, revealing a team with little ES scoring. Thus, games where you only score a goal or two.
-Who cares how many hits Mark Fistric has when he takes himself so badly out of position in order to throw them? The hockey world continues to obsess over hitting, so one dimensional players like him will always find themselves work. "Must be good defensively: he hits a lot and he didn't shave all week!" Oh. And 3 giveaways.
-Dillon's goal EA Sports-type cheesy.

Ralph Krueger
-Corey Potter spent most of his night being matched against the Stars best forwards kinda got pilloried out there. Matching quality top 6 forwards against career minor leaguers will usually lead to GA, and I don't get how it happened on hoime ice.
-Moved Hall away from Hemsky, like I was hoping would happen, and it was all for the better.

Best F - Taylor Hall. Buzz saw.
Best D - Justin Schultz. I think he was trapped a little on some Dallas cycles, but he still made his usual crisp outlet passes on the tape for the forwards.

I had to rewind Ralph's commentary on it like 5 times

Ralph: "Dillon throws it in deep.............................................................................. They score!!!!"

Me and my wife: "Wait..... What?"

:brow[1]:  :woot: <-------- Emoticon replay of my reaction in that order
