Final score will be 6 - 4 as the Avs pull Varly and the Oilers get an empty netter to seal the deal.

Heheh, just popped over to the Mile High Hockey GDT to see some more Avs fans reactions, and there's a bunch of them blaming Varly.

Yeah, the guy who made 55 saves really blew this game for us.

I have a good idea. Let's blame the game's 1st Star!

Quick assessment:

Oilers deserved this win in spite of the 3 goal lead they spotted the Avs.
Hall is snake bit and still has 15 points. When his shooting % evens out, watch out.
Whitney still made several stupid mistakes last night but also made several great passes out of his zone.
Ryan Smyth was wrongly called for a penalty and then later took a dumb penalty but played with energy and emotion.
Justin Schultz looked ordinary for the first time. Let's hope he gets back on track. Is he more hurt than what they are letting on?

Plus
-Taylor Hall was, once again, a puck rushing and scoring chance creating machine out there. Maybe some here don't like my fixation on it, but I honestly think it's the best way to judge hockey players: the puck was constantly moving in the right direction while he was on the ice.
-Nugent-Hopkins played a creative game and also demonstrated his improved play way from the puck. He wasn't bad at it last year, and is markedly better this season. The entire line is badly out-chancing opponents.
-Ryan Smyth was imperfect, but contributed a lot out there, despite PJ Stock's breathless attempts to paint him in a poor light. (CBC's broadcast has so badly gone downhill that it's not even funny).

Minus
-Ryan Whitney had a pretty rough night out there, apart from a nice play or two on the PP. His lack of mobility is glaringly obvious, and if caught on a bad pinch, he has zero chance of getting back in time to do anything other than dig the puck out of the net.
-Devan Dubnyk didn't exactly have a great game.
-Justin Schultz did not have a strong game, and didn't really get much of a sniff out there, aside from being caught far up-ice on a pinch and didn't exactly hustle back. Is he hurt?

Ralph Krueger
-I don't know if he really know what to do with Nail Yakupov at this time. Playing on Ganger/Hemsky line, he doesn't get a chance to carry the puck very much, and can't move often starboard to let the one-timer go. I still think he'd be much more comfortable as a RWer.
-Made the best of his defensive pairings after dropping Whitney back to 3rd pairing with Fistric. There is no mobility between those two, and with Whitney pinching a lot and Fistric always looking for hits over positioning, there could be some long night. Steve Tambellini needs to help his coach here.

Best F - Taylor Hall
Best D - Nobody played a spotless game on D, but I think Jeff Petry did the most to drive play.
