It’s not often that you see a 22-year old rookie defenceman lead an NHL team in time on ice over the course of a game.

It’s especially rare when that defenceman is not only not a high-profile young prospect, but was also never drafted.

Yet that exact scenario occurred on Sunday evening when rookie defenceman Brenden Dillon of the Dallas Stars played a team-high 23:49, finishing with a +2 rating, in his team’s 4-3 loss to the Calgary Flames.

As strange as it may seem, Dillon’s career-high time on ice against the Flames comes as no surprise to anyone that’s been closely following the constantly upwards-trending trajectory of Dallas’ diamond in the rough blueliner.

Finally! A dman we can semi count on for the time being!

He just needs to quit taking dumb penalties for being over aggressive... Other than that, I think he's the best blue liner we have right now...

agreed.  once he learns to be play a little smarter he is going to be a beast.  I love everything he brings to the table.

I've seen him play twice and was impressed both times.
