This road trip could make or breaks the season I think.

I think that's an understatement, Brad. This is almost 20% of their season coming up and to have a bad trip, it will pretty much put them out of playoff contention and up for a chance at an unprecedented 4th #1 pick. Though we really could use Seth Jones.

Geez, I really hope it doesn't get that bad again.
With that said, if you are going to miss the playoffs, no point in being 9th! Heh.

With the new expanded lottery format, it doesn't matter where they finish out of the playoffs, they still have a shot at #1.

I thought that wasn't in play till next year?

Hmm, I think, now that you mention it, that I heard that all non-playoff teams are in the lottery this year, but you can still only move up four spots for now. Maybe someone can confirm that.

Found it.
The NHL Draft Lottery will not be changing this year.
According to TSN Hockey Insider Bob McKenzie, the league discussed
making odds for the 14 non-playoff teams more balanced, but it won't
happen this year. The only difference in this year's draft lottery will remain that the
team that wins the lottery will be awarded the first overall pick. In
previous years, winning the lottery only allowed a team to move up a
maximum of four places in the draft order.

And not to nit-pick but it's well past the 20% over part of the season. I suck ass at math so I don't know exactly what the number is offhand but I cheated and looked it up. As of right now the Oilers have played 18 games so that puts them at 37.5% done with the 48 game season. Scary thought.
Not to mention, at that stage of an 82 game season, the standings almost never change history has proven. Never say, never but odds continue to stack against this club.

So there. We still have a chance at #1 if we don't make the playoffs.

Yes Oilers. If you don't win now, never try to win ever again. Never. ![]()

I think you'll have to settle for them trying to win, but not really being able to do so. Sory about that.
