The Phoenix Coyotes (8-6-2) are heading north of the border for a three-game road trip starting in Edmonton before making stops in Calgary and Vancouver.

Having fared well against western Canadian teams last season, going 12-4, the 'Yotes are looking to repeat their success this time around. Head coach Dave Tippett said spirits are high every time his team makes the trip up north.

"I know players are excited to play; there are a lot of players that grew up in western Canada so they're excited to get back there," he said. "There's always an excitement about playing in Canada and that probably brings out the best in players. "

Tippett is looking forward to getting a key player, Matthew Lombardi, back in his lineup Saturday. Lombardi has been out since Jan. 24 against the Sharks when he suffered a shoulder injury.

I always like the way they talk about the past history of these canadian trips.  History means nothing.  What we did last season means absolutely nothing.  Teams change. Players get better.  Some get worse. It is the here and now.  And right now and right here they are playing terrible.  The Coyotes have thrown away 3 points that they should have had.  Those points may be the difference between making the playoffs.

That's exactly the place I'm at...it doesn't even matter what they did the last game or last shift for that matter.  A shutout, a hat trick, whatever.  Who the hell cares if none of it results in more wins than what we have been getting.  We seem to be having no problems scoring goals this season.  The issue appears to be the other teams are scoring more than they used to.  The issue is obviously with the defense and even goaltending.  And no Chris, I'm not blaming Yandle or any one person or even one D pairing.  Our system requires the whole team, including the forwards to be very defensibly responsible and from what the score sheets are showing...the team is apparently not playing that system to the fullest potential that is needed game in and game out for a team like ours to be more successful.  We can say what we will about Aucoin and Rosival but I think losing their veteran experience has left a big, instability in the defensive corps of the team.  Too many young'uns on the D right now.

Q, I would never say you would blame Yandle... But we all know who would...
