The Montreal Canadiens have traded forward Erik Cole to the Dallas Stars in exchange for forward Michael Ryder and a draft pick. The trade is pending a call to the NHL's head office.

The trade returns Ryder to the organization that drafted him in the eighth round (216th overall) of the 1998 NHL Entry Draft.

Cole was unreal last year, kind of surprising.

My only worry is his track record of not being the same player game after game.  His is a real good player when that guy shows up though.

If Cole doesn't return to form, I think the Habs won this deal.

I'm thinking Cole retires after this season is over and the Habs win the trade regardless.

The rookie will now wear No. 11. <img alt="" border="0" src="http://stats.wordpre...alk&ref=&feed=1" width="1" height="1" />

If he walks away from that money I'll be surprised.

Habs def won on this one.... especially considering they got a draft pick as well.  Ryder ditched that track record the entire time he has been with Dallas, though a change of scenery isnt always helpful.  I can only hope that the change of scenery helps big time with Cole... get as much out of him in the short time he will be in Dallas.

I have to agree that the Canadiens definely won this trade, ryder for cole straight up would have been a win for montreal, but the fact that they got a draft pick to boot gives the canadiens a clear overwelming win. ryder lost some important PP time because of Jagr, but I think he should see more time and have many more chances back with the team that drafted him. Cole use to be a player everyone wanted, now he's a player almost everyone has had, he's on his fourth team in the last few seasons. I hope the change of scenery helps cole in big D, but I would definely look forward to see what ryder brings to the already pretty dangerous canadiens team.
