Apr. 14--Blue-hair guy and scores of his Jacket Backer buddies will be in Detroit Thursday night to root on the Blue Jackets -- and you're welcome to join them.

All it takes is $44 per ticket, and you, too, can be in the Joe, surrounded by a sea of red-clad Red Wings fans with ho-hum attitudes for yet another first-round playoff game in the franchise's long-and-storied history.

Detroit is the defending Stanley Cup champion; upstart Columbus is in the NHL playoffs for the very first time.

Not surprisingly, tickets for playoff games in Columbus are tough to come by and quite expensive, while plenty of less-costly seats are available for games at the Joe Louis Arena in Hockeytown.

Seats are so available that Red Wings officials called the Jacket Backers -- the team's official fan club -- and offered a group discount. A very bad Detroit-area economy also is hurting sales.

"Let's be honest: They're used to making the playoffs, and a first-round game's not that much of a big deal to them," said Andy Whitmer, a Jacket Backer known for wearing a big blue wig to games.

Being a former wing fan this is the thing that makes me mad, the season ticket holders (not the real fan ones, the business owners who could care less) are nowhere to be seen untill the conference championship/finals.

I say let them not show up. I would love to be at one of those games but, alas, it's not to be.

To be honest, I'm not sure when we're leaving from here yet. I'm sure it will be plenty early in the day. My friend I'm going with is taking care of those arrangements. I just need to dress appropriately (i.e.-Mason jersey).

As for bunny ears......we'll see.

I'll be in 226C for the game. I think we are planning to leave in the morning. I'll be staying at a hotel next to the arena called Detroit Riverside Hotel .

About 155.7 miles, with both of my family's vehicles in the crapper right now, and the fact I don't drive, not going to happen.

Now I'm really happy I went with the blue Mason instead of the white Commodore when I bought a new one this season.
